Los Angeles Fires
San Fernando Presbytery Prayer Guide
Updated on January 21, 2025
LAMENT
We are heartbroken over the devastation and loss in our communities. Lament turns us toward God when sorrow tempts us to fall into despair. Take time to cast your burdens, sorrows, and grief upon God. Lift the families and communities whose lives have been disrupted, mourning the loss of homes, memories, and livelihoods. Pray for a deep awareness of God’s presence and comfort during these challenging times.
PROVISION AND RESTORATION
Pray for all those who have lost their homes and businesses to the fire. Over twenty households related to congregations of the Presbytery, including those of three pastors, lost their homes to the fire. Pray for their endurance and guidance as they navigate insurance claims, construction challenges, and government resources. Pray for those extending generosity and hospitality to meet their needs. Ask for God’s provision to be evident in the care, resources, and love they receive. May these families experience the restoration of their material needs and healing and hope for their emotional and spiritual well-being.
WISDOM FOR LEADERS
Pray for leaders in government, first responders, relief agencies, business leaders, faith leaders, and people in all areas to work together with compassion and wisdom. Pray for discernment in decision-making as they allocate resources, prioritize safety, and rebuild communities. Pray for collaboration among local, state, and federal agencies to ensure efficient and equitable assistance for all affected. Lift faith leaders, asking that they may provide spiritual support and foster unity in this time of crisis.
COMMUNITY RESILIENCE
Pray for the communities affected by the fires to find strength and solidarity. Pray for healing relationships and support systems that will sustain them through recovery. Ask God to raise individuals and groups who will champion encouragement, renewal, and growth efforts. Pray for open doors for partnerships among churches, civic organizations, and businesses.
GRATITUDE
Thank God for the bravery and dedication of firefighters, emergency personnel, and volunteers who have risked their lives to protect others. Give thanks for the outpouring of support from across the city and beyond—those offering shelter, supplies, prayers, and encouragement. Celebrate the testimonies of God’s faithfulness and grace even amidst the ashes.
HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
Pray that as rebuilding begins, these fires will restore structures and renew hope, faith, and relationships within our communities. Ask for God’s guidance in creating safer and stronger neighborhoods rooted in care for one another and stewardship of creation. Trust that God will bring beauty out of ashes and joy from mourning.
Let us remain united in prayer as we seek healing, restoration, and hope for all impacted by these fires. May the light of Christ shine brightly, drawing us closer to God and one another.
